Although maternal mortality rate has come down in the district come down in the past couple of years, it remained static giving cause for concern. Health workers should keep this mind and ensure proper medical attention for pregnant mothers, said Collector Jayashree Muralidharan.
Inaugurating a workshop for medical officers of primary health centres and urban health centres to discuss ways to bring down and prevent maternal mortalities recently, Ms. Muralidharan said the district had recorded 29 maternal mortalities in 2011-12 and 2012-13, down from the average of 40 during the previous two years. Sixteen maternal mortalities have been reported so far this year, giving cause for worry. Source: The Hindu Read more Independent Maternal Mortality Audit Cell (Swatantra Matra-Mratyu Samikshak Dal) has been set up in Allahabad, Kaushambi, Fatehpur and Pratapgarh districts to undertake maternal mortality audit in the region. Headed by a senior health official, the cell will also have a woman health worker. National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) authorities have asked additional directors (medical & health) of Faizabad, Allahabad, Bareilly, Devipatan and Basti divisions to constitute a cell to promote maternal mortality audit. Twenty districts, including Allahabad, Pratapgarh, Kaushambi, Faizabad, Barabanki, Sultanpur, Amethi, Ambedkarnagar, Fatehpur, Bareilly, Shahjahanpur, Badaun, Pilibhit, Gonda, Bahraich, Shavasti, Balrampur, Basti, Siddarthnagar and Sant Kabirnagar have been chosen for the exercise.
