56 per cent of adolescent girls are anaemic

When it comes to women’s health, the immediate problems that come to mind are breast cancer, depression and heart disease. Unwittingly terming it as a trivial problem, anaemic condition has been ignored. But the fact remains that a severe case of anaemia could prove to be fatal.
Anaemia occurs when there is a shortage in the number of healthy red blood cells (RBCs) in the body. Since RBCs are the cells that transport oxygen through the body, a shortage in their count becomes a cause for concern. Anaemia can be detected by a decrease in the haemoglobin (Hb) count in the blood.
